Wanna ditch Skype?

If you play VASL with Skype and has been looking for a voice platform to replace Skype. You might want to check this out.

My opponent Will Fleming set up a server on Discord for voice comms during VASL games and text chat when hanging out.

You can install the app if you want to but you and/or opponent can run this via your browsers with no installs.

Heres the link if you want to try it out https://discord.gg/XxpxAvx

Before you ask, I don’t know what the advantages are beyond what I see on their webpage and beyond feedback from my friends. If you are young and want to try new things with us, here it is.

One of my friends look at it as “VASL lobby on steroids”.

Other running AAR(s)

Note : I keep about 10 to 12 scenarios & CGs running at the same time.  While I play 4 of them in weekly live VASL sessions, the rest of them are PBeM.  About half of my games are CGs (some playtest CGs) and the rest scenarios.  I update my AARs as the games roll along and so this is a notice to my readers of AAR updates and completions.

Download Here : MWT1 Four Days to Naples

MWT1

There is a scenario design competition not too long ago: “Chimps on Computers” (a modern day version of the “Monkeys on Typewriters” competition).  My ASL mentor, Witchbottles, came up with a pretty wild design where a handful of Germans tried to delay an Allied column marauding down 5 boards.  Pete Shelling was the judge and Witchbottles came in 3rd.

If you want a game of manoeuvre, this is it.

Here’s his scenario MWT-1 Four Days to Naples for your enjoyment.  He only asked that you leave comments on this GameSquad thread if you have any thoughts or comments.

ASL’rs Unofficial All Time Top 10

Roy“, an ASL’r on the GameSquad forums started a thread “Your all time top 10 scenarios“.  Seven pages later, it’s one of the more useful thread.

I compiled the list of scenarios cited with the intent of using it as my new Play List.  I hope it will be useful for you as well!!

The credit of course, goes to Roy.  Have the Best New Year!!

Here’s a link to the Google Sheet

KGS10 Red Ruins Roulette

In this scenario, the Russians win if they control the GPU prison (see the cluster of German concealment counters around KK35) and/or Block 31 (marked on the Map) in 5 turns. Historically Block 31 was notorious for being sniper infested, so any Sniper that situates in Block 31 Pins on a dr of 2 AND 3.

T001 Gavin Take

In this scenario, the US Paras win if they exited 1 or more squad equivalent and more Leader out hex Q10, which is where the road exits in the middle of the map. Any German exits increase the exit requirements for the US.

“Big Data Analysis” on ASL Scenarios

This is nothing that is as sophisticated as the title might suggest.  It’s just that I got a free trial to a data visualisation software called “Tableau”, so what better data to play on it with than ASL data?

First, I took Tom Kearney’s excellent “Master ASL Scenario Listing III” from the Texas ASL website.

Years vs TO

1944 wins out.  We got a couple of ETO scenarios at around 1919!

Years vs TO 2

We clearly have a lot more Western post-Normandy scenarios.  “MTO” is the Mediterranean, in case you are wondering, this theater comes in 3rd in front of PTO.

Years vs Publishers

The tall blue line is of course Avalon Hill / MMP.  What caught my also is the very long (light blue) lead that Le Franc Tireur (LFT) has early in time.  We are probably talking about their Russian Revolution scenarios here.  The red line running along LFT is Dispatches from the Bunker (DB) and the orange Bounding Fire Productions (BFP).

Locations

No surprises here for the most part, but I didn’t know we have that many scenarios on events that took place in the Philippines!

The following are the Nationalities featured by different Publishers, ie get BFP if you want to play more Chinese OB, BFP & SP for more IJA (assuming that we all get core modules by default).

AlliesAxis

Finally I took the 100.000+ records we accumulated on ROAR and worked out the Percentage of Wins minus Losses per Nationality.  (Get the IJA, don’t take the Canadians .. )

ROAR

Again, I am a novice when it comes to the science of Data Analysis, so please take everything with a grain of salt.  It certainly interests me though!  I hope this is entertaining for you as well.
